Trading Desk and product instruments

In Finger Manager, an institution creates a Trading Desk before binding the product instrument that customers will eventually see and trade in Finger Trader.

The Trading Desk is the backend configuration unit for a single tradable product. The product instrument represents the specific ticker shown to end users.

In most cases, one ticker corresponds to one Trading Desk. This structure allows each product to maintain independent quote sources, trading parameters, rules, display information, and other backend configuration.

01 What a Trading Desk is

A Trading Desk is an independent product configuration unit created for a single trading instrument in Finger Manager.

It can be understood as the dedicated management space for one ticker in the backend. Examples include JPY/USD as a Forex Trading Desk, EUR/USD as a Forex Trading Desk, XAU/USD as a Commodity Trading Desk, AAPL as a Stock Trading Desk, and BTC/USDT as a Digital Asset Trading Desk.

After a Trading Desk is created, administrators can bind the product instrument and continue configuring quotes, trading parameters, and product status.

The Trading Desk itself is a backend management structure. It is not directly displayed to customers as the product name in Finger Trader.

02 Why one ticker usually corresponds to one Trading Desk

Even when two products belong to the same market, their trading parameters and business rules may be completely different.

For example, AAPL and TSLA are both stock products, but they may use different quote sources, quote precision, minimum trading units, quantity steps, trading hours, fee rules, risk parameters, order rules, account availability, and backend business configuration.

Finger Manager therefore usually uses a one ticker to one Trading Desk model. This keeps each trading instrument independent, clear, and maintainable.

03 Market assigned to a Trading Desk

When creating a Trading Desk, the administrator first specifies the market it belongs to.

For example, a Forex market can contain EUR/USD, GBP/USD, JPY/USD, and AUD/USD. A Stocks market can contain AAPL, TSLA, NVDA, and MSFT. A Commodities market can contain XAU/USD and XAG/USD. A Digital Assets market can contain BTC/USDT and ETH/USDT.

The selected market determines which market category the product appears under in Finger Trader. Before creating a Trading Desk, administrators should confirm that the corresponding market has already been enabled in Market Management.

04 What a product instrument is

A product instrument is the concrete tradable object that an institution offers to customers.

In Finger Manager, Symbol or Ticker is commonly used as the unique identifier for a product, such as AAPL, TSLA, JPY/USD, XAU/USD, or BTC/USDT.

Ticker values are used across quote matching, quote ingestion, product identification, order processing, trade routing, front-end display, historical order search, and data statistics. Administrators should ensure that ticker naming is consistent with the quote and trading systems.

05 Ticker and display name

Ticker and product display name are separate concepts.

For example, the ticker JPY/USD may be displayed as Japanese Yen / US Dollar, while the ticker AAPL may be displayed as Apple Inc.

Ticker is mainly used for internal identification, quote matching, and trading processing. The display name is used by Finger Trader to present a clearer product name to end users.

06 Create a Trading Desk

Go to Market & Product Management > Trading Desk and product instruments, select the market to configure, then create a new Trading Desk.

Creation usually requires market, desk name, ticker, product type, display name, product icon, and initial product status.

Creating a Trading Desk does not mean the product is listed. At this stage, the product is still in backend configuration.

07 Bind the product instrument

After creating a Trading Desk, bind the corresponding product ticker to that Desk.

For example: Market is Forex, Trading Desk is JPY/USD Desk, Ticker is JPY/USD, and display name is Japanese Yen / US Dollar.

After binding is complete, quote source, trading parameters, trading rules, product status, and front-end display information configured for that Desk will apply to that ticker.

08 Standard product templates

Finger Manager can provide standard product templates to improve configuration efficiency for common products.

Templates are suitable for common market instruments such as AAPL, TSLA, EUR/USD, JPY/USD, XAU/USD, and BTC/USDT.

A standard template can prefill Symbol, product name, category, common price precision, recommended trading unit, base market attributes, and recommended display information. Administrators can then adjust these fields according to the institution's own requirements.

09 Create a custom product

If the required product is not available in the standard templates, the institution can create a custom product.

Custom products are suitable for OTC products, CFD products, custom indexes, digital assets, internal products, structured products, special trading instruments, and other non-standard products.

Administrators can configure Symbol or Ticker, product name, market, category, icon, quote precision, minimum trading unit, display information, and other extension parameters. After creation, a custom product can be bound to a Trading Desk in the same way as a standard product.

10 Difference between standard and custom products

Both standard templates and custom products can eventually become listed tradable products. The main difference is the source of configuration.

Standard templates are suitable for common products and help improve speed, unify base fields, reduce repeated input, and lower common configuration mistakes.

Custom products are suitable for special business needs. They provide more flexibility, allow non-standard tickers, support different quote methods, and can adapt to the institution's own product structure.

11 Product icon and front-end display

Each product can have a product icon for use in Finger Trader product lists, market pages, and other client-side display scenarios.

For example, AAPL can use an Apple-related icon, BTC/USDT can use a digital asset icon, and forex products can use currency-pair icons or institution-defined icons.

A front-end product item is usually composed of ticker, product name, icon, and market category. Once the base product profile is configured, Finger Trader can read the information from Manager and display it directly.

12 Relationship between Trading Desk and product instrument

A simple way to understand the relationship is: Trading Desk equals the backend product management unit, while Ticker equals the actual tradable instrument.

For example: Forex Market, JPY/USD Trading Desk, JPY/USD, Japanese Yen / US Dollar, configure quote data, trading parameters, and product status, then list the product in Finger Trader.

The Trading Desk manages backend configuration. The ticker identifies the specific tradable product. The product name and icon are used for client-side display.

13 Configuration principle for the same ticker

In most cases, the same ticker inside the same institution should have one primary Trading Desk.

For example, after creating an AAPL Trading Desk, it is usually unnecessary to create another identical AAPL Desk.

Duplicate configuration may cause duplicate product display, unclear quote sources, inconsistent parameters, ambiguous order processing relationships, and maintenance difficulty.

If the same ticker truly requires different trading rules, liquidity sources, account systems, or independent business routes, the institution should separate them according to its business structure and use clear naming and management rules.

14 Trading Desk is not an execution venue

A Trading Desk is a product configuration and management unit in Finger Manager.

It does not represent an exchange, market, broker, liquidity provider, or any actual execution venue.

Depending on the institution's system architecture, one Trading Desk can connect to different quote sources, brokers, liquidity providers, OMS, execution systems, APIs, or internal trading systems.

The actual trade execution method is determined by the institution's downstream configuration.

15 Next step after creation

After the Trading Desk and product instrument are bound, administrators still need to complete other required product configuration.

The standard process is: enable market, create Trading Desk, bind ticker, configure product profile, configure quote source, configure trading parameters, check product status, list the product, then synchronize to Finger Trader.

Trading Desk and product instrument configuration is the foundation of the product launch process, but it is not the final step.

When configuring a new product, the recommended sequence is: confirm the market, create a Trading Desk, bind the product instrument, complete the product profile, then continue configuring quotes and trading parameters.

The most important relationship is that one tradable ticker usually corresponds to one independent Trading Desk.

This allows Finger Manager to maintain independent backend configuration for different markets and products, while Finger Trader generates the final market and product structure according to the institution's completed product settings.

  1. The administrator creates a counter as the management unit for one tradable product.

The counter is ready to bind a ticker.
  2. The administrator selects a standard product template or creates a custom product, then sets the symbol, category, precision, minimum unit, trading rules, and extension parameters.

The counter now has a defined ticker record.
  3. The administrator sets the product's quote WebSocket, Topic, Routing Key when required, and data format.

Finger Manager can receive live quotes and synchronize them to Finger Trader.
  4. After all required settings are complete, the system saves the configuration, establishes quote mapping, publishes the product, and synchronizes it to Finger Trader.

After publishing, end users can search, view, and trade the product in the client.
