Default Currency

Default Currency is used to set the default monetary unit for the current Organization in the system.

When certain business data, accounts, fees, reports, or system functions do not specify a separate currency, Finger Manager uses the configured default currency first for display or processing.

Default Currency is an Organization-level base configuration. It does not mean the system can support only one currency.

01. What Default Currency is

Finger Grid supports multi-currency business.

An institution can set one default currency according to its primary operating market and settlement structure.

The default currency is mainly used by the system to determine which currency should be used as the fallback display or processing unit when no other currency is explicitly specified.

Currency examples USD, JPY, EUR, GBP, HKD, SGD, CNY, and other currencies supported by the system.

02. Purpose of Default Currency

Default Currency may be used by account defaults, fee display, service pricing, billing, statistics, reports, amount fields in the back office, default currency for newly created business objects, converted display of certain assets or trading data, and other system functions that do not define a separate currency.

Whether a specific module uses Default Currency depends on that module's own business configuration.

03. Set Default Currency

Open System Settings -> Default Currency, select the default currency that the current institution wants to use, and save the setting.

For example, an institution mainly operating in USD can set USD - United States Dollar.

An institution mainly serving the Japanese market can set JPY - Japanese Yen.

After saving, the selected currency becomes the default currency configuration for the current Organization.

04. Default Currency is not the trading currency

Default Currency does not change the trading currency of a financial product.

For example, US stocks can still trade in USD, Japanese stocks can still trade in JPY, Hong Kong stocks can still trade in HKD, and FX or other products still use their own currencies according to product rules.

Default Currency is only a system-level default. A product's trading currency, quote currency, settlement currency, and an account's currency can still be configured separately according to product, market, account, or business rules.

05. Multi-currency business

When an institution operates multiple markets, different currencies can still be handled in the same Organization.

For example, the default system currency can be USD, while US stocks use USD, Japanese stocks use JPY, Hong Kong stocks use HKD, and European markets use EUR.

Therefore, even if the Organization's Default Currency is USD, it does not prevent other markets from using JPY, HKD, or EUR normally.

06. Difference from account currency

Default Currency is a system-level configuration, while account currency belongs to a specific customer or account.

For example, the Organization Default Currency can be USD, while Customer A uses USD, Customer B uses JPY, and Customer C uses HKD.

If an account already specifies its own currency, that account currency is usually used before the Organization Default Currency.

07. Difference from product currency

Each product can have its own quote or trading currency.

For example, AAPL can use USD as its trading currency, while 7203 Toyota Motor can use JPY.

Product currency describes the financial product itself, while Default Currency defines the default monetary unit in the current institution's system environment. They are configurations at different levels.

08. Reports and amount display

Some statistics, reports, or summary functions may need to convert data in different currencies into one display currency.

In functions that support unified conversion, Default Currency can be used as the system's reference display currency.

For example, if an institution holds USD assets, JPY assets, and HKD assets, the system can convert them using the applicable exchange rates and summarize them in the institution's Default Currency.

The actual conversion rules and exchange rate sources depend on the configuration of the corresponding module.

09. Editing Default Currency

For an Organization that is already in production, confirm the affected business scope before changing Default Currency.

Pay particular attention to billing, reports, statistics, default amount display, new accounts, new business configurations, and finance-related functions.

Changing Default Currency usually does not directly modify historical trades, products, or other data that already specify their own currencies.

In production environments, this change should be confirmed by an administrator with system management permissions.

10. Organization-level independent configuration

Default Currency is configured independently by Organization.

Different institutions can set their own default currencies according to their primary business markets.

For example, Broker A can use USD as Default Currency, Broker B can use JPY, and Broker C can use HKD.

Default Currency configurations do not affect each other between Organizations.

11. Permissions

Default Currency is a system-level base setting.

Only administrators with the required System Settings permissions can modify it.

For institutions already in production, this permission should be restricted to designated administrators to avoid incorrect changes that affect amount display, billing, or related business data.

Default Currency is the Organization-level fallback currency used by Finger Manager when no more specific currency is defined.

It should be configured according to the institution's operating market, settlement model, billing needs, and reporting requirements, while product, account, trading, quote, and settlement currencies remain separately configurable.
